To be in a hypnotic state, we need to be at least in the alpha state. During the session, you might go into a deeper state, or falling asleep and that's ok, you may still be aware of everything said or heard during the session because you are still in hypnosis. Our body physiology is an amazing machine: one of our sense's organ the ear never can be switched off, it is a survival mechanism, even in a very deep sleep you are kind of aware. If some intruders invaded your house during the night, you would hear the noises and an "alarm bell" in your subconscious mind would wake you up instantly.
So it is pretty safe to go into an hypnotic state. You are always in control.
Hypnotherapy is a quick tool to change negative behaviours and beliefs. It works because we can manage to bypass the conscious mind "beta" to reach our subconscious mind where we have stored our behaviours and beliefs. When you learn something, after a few repetitions, it becomes automatic; you don't have to think of acting, you just do because it has been programmed into your subconscious. To be able to change we need to reach our subconscious to recreate new healthier habits.
It also works because your brain cannot always tell the difference between reality and fiction. The best example is: if you watch a horror movie, can you prevent yourself from being scared or disgusted...? You really experience intense feelings though deep down you know it is only a movie, it is fiction but your brain makes you live the movie as if it were reality.
Of course this is an extreme example, I just want to show you how powerful our brain can be using thoughts and imagination. In the session, we only will be using positive images that we can establish together, so you know that you will always be safe.
Depending on what type of work we’ll be doing together, I may record the session so you can listen to it at home on a regular basis until your new positive habit is in place. Be aware that it can take to about twenty one days to form a new habit.
